Located in the heart of Lacon, Illinois, this new 21st Century elementary school replaces the existing, original high school. The original school was more than past it's useful life, and had been serving as the District elementary for several decades.
This 40,000 Sq. Ft., two story new school provides the Midland Consolidated School District with state of the art 21st Century educational spaces and expanded learning opportunities.
Cox Group Architects LLC, in association with CBJ Architects PC, provided Visioning, Planning, Referendum Leadership, Design, Owner Representation, and Post Occupancy services for this Pre-K - 4 Community-use new school.
A unique feature of this school is the use of three interconnected Kindergarten rooms that also serve as the ICC 500 rated tornado storm shelter. One of the first such ICC 500 shelters in Illinois.
